WHat the hell. I just got back today from the Tigers game. I could count on 2 hands how many black people I saw. There was 40,000 plus at the stadium. Why is it this way. Most of the workers in the satuim were black. I've been to Piston games also and it's the same thing. I just don't understand with the stadium being in the middle of 800,000 black people why they don't attend a game.

The NBA is pricing itself out of middle/lower class America. I did not think that MLB is, but maybe they are.

I am not saying african americans are middle/lower class, but statistics tell us that on average, their net salaries are lower than average.

Anyways, $20/ticket +$5/hot dog +$7/ beer doesn't seem that bad if you've got $1000 on the game and make $50,000-100,000 each year, but if you make $20000 you don't spend those things.

It also likely has to do with family dynamics. Often dad takes the boys to the game. In inner city Detroit sadly there are a lot of kids with no dad. I can't imagine my mom saying to me - let's go catch the game today.

Yeah I was there on Thurs

not many there, alot of workers are black.

they do have $8 bleacher tickets and other cheap seats

don't make any sense.

if you go to a Pistons game, it's reversed

the whole city is going nuts over the tigs

black fans in the stands are rare all over, you would think the NBA may be a little different but it's no better.

now back in the day (70s & 80s), you would see more black fans in the stands, not so much anymore.

overall though the fans that went back then, are not the same fans who frequent sporting events now days.

the and 1 tour you can count on your hands the number of white people you see in the game. white people tend to like more yawn things like cricket and baseball.

I experienced the same thing when I lived in Southern Alberta (early 90s.) Nothing but whites and natives. Here, in Southern Ontario, it's a total hodgepodge of ethnicities. I prefer the mixed crowd, myself. Makes for a better selection of restaurants!

Well Duh that's who thier going for. They want to sell thier shoes and athletic wear to that group of people. That is not even Basketball anyway. That's all show. A bunch of gimmicks to get the crowd in a frenzy. They play loud rap music during the show.

LOL Yawn. Yeah the wife and I left in the 7th inning today. But you can't tell me that no black people want to see a 1st place team.

Please don't compare the And1 shows to baseball.

black people dont like the feeling of being out numbered in places, which is why. same reason why white moved to the burbs and arnt places where there are high number of blacks. its sociological psychology. you feel more comfortable around your own people, you cannot deny that.

Have you ever gone to a Pistons game at the Palace? 20,000 white people watching 10 black people playing basketball.

They don't call it "plantation basketball" for nothing (and I'm not joking).

People in general prefer yawn games. Throw in soccer and with cricket you have the two most popular sports in the world.

Attending And 1 game > Attending a Tigers game

And thats just the way it is.

Theres no black people at Fenway either. They arent even on the streets near by. But I almost ran over Johny Pesky when I was walking around because I was so drunk. But JP said hi to us and we won that day. :toast:

it just goes back to general sociology. you feel more comfortable being around your people. no black person is going to be comfortable at comerica since he's outnumbered. no white will be comfortable at and 1 event because they'll be outnumbered.

Its an attention span thing as well. Few of them are going to sit through a nine-inning game that moves at a snails pace.

A lot of it is reflective of the players in the Game, back in the 70's, Blacks made up 25% of all MLB players, that number has dropped to about 8 or 9%.
How many Latin people were at the game?

Most black people that I know, are too smart to pay that kind of money to see a ballgame today. I stopped going years ago myself. I love baseball and basketball, but I have not been to Fenway park in about 7 years. I had been to about 200 games in my life prior to that.
